The four-year Horizon2020-funded research project ‘Sustainable Integrated Management FOR the NEXUS of water-land-food-energy-climate for a resource-efficient Europe (SIM4NEXUS)’ brings together 25 partners from across Europe to develop develop innovative methodologies to facilitate the design of policies and bridge knowledge and technology gaps in the field of the water-land-food-energy-climate Nexus under climate change conditions. The project aims to adopt existing knowledge and develop new expertise on the Nexus, to reduce uncertainties of how policies, governance and institutions affect complex changing environmental systems, to showcase the implementation by a network of regional and national case studies in Europe and to valorize the project outputs by creating project spinoffs.

Uppsala University (UU) is one of the 25 partners. Claudia Teutschbein, researcher at the Department of Earth Sciences, is responsible for conducting a Swedish case study with the aim of analyzing the complex interactions between water, forest and energy sector, and how different political, social and economic decisions affect these different sectors in a changing climate. SIM4NEXUS är ett fyraårigt EU-finansierat forsknings-projekt där 25 samarbetspartner från hela Europa medverkar. Huvudmålet är att utveckla innovativa metoder som ska underlätta utformning av lagstiftning och överbrygga kunskapsklyftor i kopplingen mellan vatten, mark, livsmedel, energi och klimat. SIM4NEXUS använder komplexitetsteorin och ett datorspel som lärve­rktyg (så kallat ”Serious Game”) för att testa och utvärdera politiska beslut.  Projektet startade i juni 2016 med en budget på nästan 8 miljoner euro.

Uppsala universitet (UU) är en av de 25 samarbetspartner som medverkar i projektet. Claudia Teutschbein, forskare pÃ¥ institutionen för geovetenskaper, ansvarar för att genomföra en av fallstudierna som ska utreda de komplexa sambanden mellan vatten, skog, energi och klimat och hur dessa interaktioner kan pÃ¥verkas av politiska beslut i Sverige.
